Want the best book recommendations?
Join the Benevolent Incendiary Society and get public email posts direct to your inbox
Click here and select ‘follow’ to get my free patreon updates without actually supporting BFL. Although if my work benefits you and you’d like to help me keep it going, I’d be grateful.
Want to connect with other parents and educators?
Join the BFL Facebook group (3-5 posts/week) to discuss the books we’re reading together. It’s free to join, but I do ask you to answer some intro questions. Just to prove you’re not a robot.
Want to hear me rant about non-book things?
Follow the Raising Luminaries Facebook page (2-7 posts/week) where I share articles you need to know about. Also I occasionally vent about injustice and bias, outside the realm of kidlit.
Labor I won’t perform for free:
As much as I wish I could, just don’t have time to hold each individual person’s hand. I create a LOT of free content, and it’s a full-time job. You can say ‘thanks’ in solidarity so I can keep it up by supporting BFL on Patreon for as little as $3/month, or through a one-time contribution of whatever you can afford.
The reason I created this page is because Strangers. Keep. Asking (or demanding) I edit their books, give them my phone number so I can listen to their woes, explain how racism/ableism/etc. works in a private message, boost their organization, do a public speaking event, and/or be a therapist – for free – not realizing I have limited time and a two kids to support.
If you’re interested in any of these things – I can do them. But providing the stuff above, plus more costs me (in childcare, coffee, spoons, and living expenses). So you’ll need to pay for my expertise and time.
