Electric shock punishments are illegal for use against neurotypical children, pets, and zoo animals. But this practice is still legal (and actively used) against children and adults with intellectual disabilities at the Judge Rotenburg Center.

I saw a fellow Black parent online struggling with their four year old being exposed to discussions of guns and jail in their all-white daycare.

In addition to personal suggestions, I had remembered someone sent me content on Books For Littles and Raising Luminaries previously.

I live with my family in a rural white community and realized that I needed to work harder to introduce diversity into my children's experience (ages 8 and 3).

I am interested in all areas of diversity and really want my kids to grow up with awareness and the courage to stand up for the rights of others.

I am in my own journey of self education and am working towards finding valued actions, steps that can help create change.

I am a quiet, introverted person so action has been an area that I conveniently set to the side, time and time again.

Becoming a patron is part of an action step. I wanted to support the work that you do to vet the books and information I give to my family. I also plan to work with my local school district to increase diversity in the schools and libraries.

I’m an Autistic, multiracial (Chinese/Irish) 2nd-generation settler raising two children alongside my partner on the homelands of the Wampanoag and Massachusett people. My goal with Raising Luminaries is to collaborate with families and educators in raising the next generation of kind & courageous leaders, so we can all smash the kyriarchy together.
