Elders & Anti-Ageism

Ageism - Actions, rules & ideas that give middle-age adults more power than older adults and children.

SMASH THE KYRIARCHY

Why Act Now?

Elders laid the path for social change so we can make an impact today. They know how to cultivate change that has been nurtured over decades and centuries.

Listening to them it makes it easier for us to replicate their successes and avoid repeating their mistakes.

Agony of the Aged

Review 'Agony of the Aged,' a photo series published 23-year-old Soham Gupta as a 'tribute' to 'remember' older adults, via Al Jazeera in Pictures.

Based on the scenes, poses, shadows, and how they are written about - how do you think this young artist feels about aging?

If you needed help - would you choose to be depicted this way?

How might the photos look different if the subjects took the photos themselves?

Middle School+

Aging-In-Place

Use this interactive map to find a Village to Village Network local to you. Many of these aging-in-place groups organize creative inter-generational community mutual aid projects.

For example, my community has 'Storm Squads' for phone check-ins during disastrous weather. Others connect residents with older adults who volunteer to repair small appliances for free.
