What are Ignition Call Support Sessions?

Ignition Calls offer free 1:1 parent & advocacy strategy sessions.

Do you need a quick, focused boost to get clear on your next steps?

Whether you’re rethinking your approach to discipline or navigating your child’s experience of discrimination, you don’t have to tackle this alone.

Ignition Calls Support Sessions provide you with focused support to discuss the parenting or advocacy challenge that’s got you stuck.

This isn’t a “general check-in” or a free-for-all of brain picking. Bring a specific challenge that’s keeping you from moving forward, and I’ll help detangle your thoughts and clarify next steps.

You’re smart, capable, and already have a wide range of tools in your toolbox.

But sometimes we need help figuring out which tools to use, with help from someone not currently tangled in the thick of it.

When should you schedule an Ignition Call?

Schedule a call if you’re facing a parenting & advocacy challenge that you can’t bring to the Luminary Braintrust group chat, for example:

Advocacy navigating neurodivergence

Want to learn how to advocate about the issues that matter to you, but your executive functioning challenges make it hard to get started? Need someone to walk you through the steps of writing to your elected officials, and can’t deal with too many inputs from a group discussion? I’ll walk you through it.

Intimidated about sharing within the group
Have you or your kiddo done something harmful, and you’re not quite ready to take accountability? Let’s discuss your options.

Anxiety about embarrassing yourself or causing harm
Have a challenge for the group discussion, but worried you’ll hurt someone because you’re not sure how to phrase it? Reach out for help getting started.

Private or sensitive information
Need a sounding board to talk through a challenge that requires disclosing medical information, your child’s LBGTQiA2S+ identity, or immigration status?  Let’s chat about it privately without outing anyone.

Not sure how to get started?
The LBT is an inclusive group designed for neurodivergent folks with executive functioning challenges. But the LBT ecosystem has a lot of features to navigate, and maybe you just need a little help learning how to get involved.

When should you not schedule an Ignition Call?

While Ignition Calls are for solving specific challenges, some things are better handled in the  Luminary Braintrust group chatthe place to crowdsource ideas, share wins, and connect with others. For example:

Quick Brain-Pickings with Simple Answers
Want to know the latest book recommendations on transformative justice parenting? Or ask for a quick tip on how to rephrase a comment to a teacher? Get a wealth of experience-based insight from the other members of the Luminary Braintrust.

Curiosity & Quick Brainstorming:
Got a “How do I get my kid to stop stealing his brother’s candy without giving him food issues?” kind of question? Ask the members of our chat group and get wisdom from parents who have also faced this challenge.

Social Connection & Sharing Wins:
You’d love to share a recent success or feel seen in a moment of struggle. While I want to cheer you on, the group is the perfect place to celebrate  (or commiserate) together.

How it works

  • Available Sessions: This we have space for up to 2 calls per month. Once the spots are filled, the calendar will close.
  • Duration: Each session is 30-45 minutes of focused discussion to outline challenges, strategize, and generate action ideas.
  • Sessions are 1:1, but we can open it up to a small group if you’d like.
  • Discussions are closed – To protect your privacy, I won’t take notes or keep records of what we discuss during our call.
  • Registration prioritizes active Luminary Braintrust members, with any remaining spots open to our Ignition Notes subscribers.

Who hosts Ignition Calls?

Ashia Ray [they/them]

In Raising Luminaries spaces, we root our learning and advocacy in transformative justice, disability justice, and relationship-based collective liberation. As a multiracial, neurodivergent class migrant who’s navigated life at the intersections of targeted and privileged identities, I know how to hold space for complexity: for parents who are powerful in some ways, targeted in others, and still trying to figure out how to survive. Together, we’ll focus on working within our capacity and focusing our scattered floodlight into a laser-beam of sustainable action.
