As we explored this topic in the LBT chat group, we unpacked challenges and hesitations, shared ideas and resources, and built the following toolkit to embrace trickster resistance.
Big thanks to our Luminary Braintrust Autumn 2024 to Winter 2025 Collaborators: Shannon B.S., Rebecca B. Lena H. & Tricia L., who shared how they’re navigating the challenges of authoritarianism, unpacked the difference between being a trickster and being a jerk, and brainstormed practical tools to help our families resist and thrive.

Tricksterism—a practice of questioning, subverting, and playfully disrupting norms—is one way we can subvert the kyriarchy without falling into despair
Embracing trickster energy helps us:
- Spot the weak points in authoritarian rules and power structures.
- Expose contradictions in authority’s claim to legitimacy.
- Reclaim our agency when navigating overwhelming forces of oppression.
- Normalize creative rebellion so others feel empowered to question authority alongside us.
- Distract and frustrate bigots, bullies, and oligarchs, regardless of the power they hoard.
